An Intimate Evening with David Foster

Foster seems constitutionally incapable of resting on his laurels, and his relentless drive has propelled him throughout his career. Few other individuals can claim to have their fingerprints on more major moments in all of popular music than David Foster. He has created hit songs and award-winning gold and platinum albums for a diverse array of artists including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Seal, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Chicago, Hall & Oates, Brandy, ’N Sync, Boz Scaggs, and Gloria Estefan. He has escorted singers who have straddled both pop and classical styles like Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban into the mainstream. He has created culture-defining soundtracks for blockbuster films like The Bodyguard, Urban Cowboy, and St. Elmo’s Fire.

2ND ACT: Stefan Rybak

Stefan Rybak was a workaholic with a history of success in the entertainment, media, and marketing industry, until he had to confront an unscheduled, inescapable interruption to his business plans. After Stefan collapses and is rushed to the emergency room, a doctor insists that he must schedule major heart surgery to correct a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect.

Confronted with his own mortality, and uncertain about how to handle this devastating new development in his life, Stefan appeals to the memories of his late, strong-willed, and highly protective mother Maria — who, as a young Polish girl, was forced into slave labor by the Nazis during World War II. During post-surgical recovery, Stefan decides to write a book about his experience. He learns that his mother shielded him, both as a child and as a man, from the most difficult and traumatic realities that she had to cope with during and after the war. Stefan’s mother was a remarkable, but deeply flawed, woman and, to complete the book, Stefan must come to terms with her good and bad choices, her alcoholism, her turbulent marriage and divorce, and her enduring spirituality.

2ND ACT: Stephen Drew

Stephen Drew lives in the northwestern Connecticut town of Morris, a bucolic community that surrounds Bantam Lake. He moved there after a period of personal loss and tragedy, searching for peace and simplicity; a place to collect himself.

It was here he took up walking, and in the space of taking one particular step, was moved into a mystical experience that would forever change his life. Called to walk the Camino de Santiago, the Way of Saint James, Spain’s thousand year old pilgrimage route, he came to a journey of physical, psychological, and spiritual implications. Among the many outcomes of this walk were the reawakening of his writing voice, and a longing to share the story.
