Variations On A Fourth!
Presented virtually on YouTube at 7:30 pm, Saturday, July 4th, Variations On A Fourth! is an exploration of themes and variations on traditional patriotic music that celebrates America’s multicultural identity, including Henri Vieuxtemps’ Souvenir d’Amerique “Yankee Doodle” , Charles Ives’ Variations On “America”, Moses Hogan’s arrangement of Deep River, Francis Johnson’s Victoria Galop and John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.
The ensemble and soloists performing feature WSO musicians and guest artists who have appeared with the Symphony in the past. This artistic tour de force includes internationally acclaimed soprano, Michelle Johnson, award-winning violinist Sirena Huang, the Grammy-winning Chestnut Brass Company, with WSO Principal Trumpet, John Charles Thomas, and acclaimed organist, Joseph Ripka. The event will be emceed by WSO Music Director & Conductor, Leif Bjaland.
Admission is $10 ($2.50 ticketing fee not included) and tickets are available at waterburysymphony.org or 203-574-4283. A link to the event will be sent to ticket purchasers 24 hours before the concert.
