Portraits of Town Hall Women
Portraits of Town Hall Women

They marched, persevered…and freedom prevailed.
In honor of the 2020 Women’s Suffrage Centennial, twenty-three artists from Fairfield County and beyond, including Middlebury Portraitist, ShawnaLee W. Kwashnak, have joined together for a year-long Portrait Project.
By painting portraits of the women working in Ridgefield’s Town Hall, we have recognized the working women who often still work behind the scenes.
The Portrait Project celebrates women’s progress from the voting booth to Town Hall as women have grown to play important roles in government on all levels through the years.
The Portraits are currently on view at the Carriage Barn of the Keeler Tavern Museum along with the Votes for Women exhibit.
Of special interest ShawnaLee W. Kwashnak is a descendant of Ridgefields Olmstead & Northrup family. She is a Pet and Child Portrait artist and offers art lessons throughout Connecticut in person and via Zoom. ShawnaLee is a recipient of a grant to teach Pandemic Portraiture from FY20 CT Artist Respond grant awarded by DECD/CT Office of the Arts.
