One Day Plein Air Adventure Workshop with Linda Marino and Bettyann Mederios to The Thimble Islands
Lush green foliage, sandy beaches, rose quartz granite rocks, amazing ocean vista are just a few words to describe this exceptional location. Travel by water taxi to the Outer Island, the furthest of the Thimble Islands off the coast of Stony Creek CT.
Just 15 minutes from New Haven, The Thimble Islands is a popular travel destination during the summer season. As we travel by boat past the 16+ private Islands, a 15 minute ride, we arrive at the docks of Outer Island. Outer Island is part of the Stewart B McKinney National Wildlife Refuge and includes, granite outcropping, boulders, cobble beaches and two small salt marshes.
Bettyann will be teaching in oils and Linda will be teaching in acrylics. For beginners to intermediate students. Both instructors will give a brief demonstration focusing on water, rock formations and foliage specifically to this region. Students will then be able to explore the island and select their own location to paint. Each instructor will work with their students assisting with composition, design, color selections and how to capture the essence of the island unique characteristics. Linda will work under the pavilion and new students who can follow along step by step in acrylics. Betty Ann will be working with the oil painting students outside the pavilion. **Students who register must be able to walk on uneven terrain and be able to get in and out of a small boat with their supplies.
A gourmet boxed lunch will be provided by Chef Dean along with morning coffee, snacks and ice cold water.
The island is very rustic however there is a restroom, areas of natural shade from trees and shrubs, a large pavilion structure and a sandy beach. Enjoy a fun filled day of painting and exploring on one Connecticut’s hidden treasures – the Thimble Islands.
The fee for the one-day workshop is $150 which includes your taxi to and from the island, snacks and a gourmet lunch. Please specify if you will be painting in Oils or Acrylics when registering. Class size is limited to 7 students in each medium. Rain date is Monday, August 12th
