Furoshiki is the Japanese art of wrapping objects in cloth. This elegant and ecological art is used for both practical carrying of objects and for presentation of gifts. Participants will learn how to wrap items such as bottles, books and packages to offer as gifts. We will also make a shopping bag to carry on the shoulder and a double book wrap to carry books or binders.  You only need to be able to fold and tie a basic overhand knot to participate. The Library will provide participants with one fabric square to get started with; cotton is best for practical wraps.  Silks and thin synthetics are great for gifts as long as the material is not transparent.  All fabric must be square or nearly square.  Solid fabrics and small prints look best.  You can wrap an object that is roughly 1/3 the size of the cloth.  The Zoom event will be taught by librarian and poet Beth Van Ness who has enjoyed making crafts nearly as long as she has had thumbs.  Registration is required.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
