CrateCrafts Fine Woodworking was founded in 2008 by Mr. David Peckar. Mr. Peckar received his professional degree in architecture from Cornell University in 1983 and holds architectural licenses in the State of Connecticut and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
For over 30 years Mr. Peckar engaged in a successful career as an architect with several top echelon architectural firms in the Boston area. During this time, he specialized in the more technical aspects of building systems, materials, exterior enclosures, as well as the preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. However, in 2008 when the recession hit and work for architects became very limited, he made the decision to turn his “basement hobby” of fine woodworking, historic wood repairs and restorations into a full-time occupation.
Since the founding of CrateCrafts Fine Woodworking, he has had the opportunity to bring his diverse skills to the restoration, repair, and preservation of some very complex, challenging, and detailed historic architectural projects in a “hands on” way that have provided his clients with solutions that deliver a high quality of execution at an economic cost.
Mr. Peckar brings a mastery of fine woodworking experience to the restorations, repairs and matching re-creations of many types of historic wooden architectural elements such as window sash, shutters, sills, railings, doors, and many types of trim, moldings, and specialty items. Much of this work follows the requirements of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Recently CrateCrafts Fine Woodworking has expanded to a larger full-service woodworking shop, located in Waterbury, CT. This facility houses a complete collection of specialized woodworking tools and equipment specifically designed to accommodate the needs of historic restoration, detailed wood repairs and the accurate matching and re-creation of historical wooden architectural elements.
